COI PART 2 CITIZENSHIP

Hello & Welcome, This is your "APPLY IAS", I think you are now familiar with the Parts of the Indian Constitution, If not please go see them in my previous posts for a better understanding. In this article we are going to see whether you are a Citizen of India or not, just kidding I think you got your voter's ID or Aadhaar(UIDAI) ID or Passport. Then relax you are a citizen of India. Our Constitution recognises a person as it citizen under the following articles given below.

Article 5: Citizen by birth
Article 6: Migrated to India from Pakistan
Article 7: Migrated to Pakistan and return back to India
Article 8: Indian's originally residing outside India
Article 9: Single citizenship.
Article 10: Deemed to be a citizen
Article 11: Parliament powers in citizenship.

Article 5:

If the person has a domicile(Home) in India or born within the territory of India or any one of his parents is a citizen of India or The person need to reside in India for a period of five years immediately after the commencement of constitution.

Article 6 :

If the person is Migrated from Pakistan to India before 19 July 1948 is a citizen of India. But if he is migrated after 19 July 1948 he needs to reside in India for a period of Six months after applying for the citizenship.

Article 7:

This article expresses that the People who were migrated before the 1st of March, 1947  and came back will become the citizen of India if they reside in India for six months after applying for citizenship.

Article 8:

This article explains that the Person who is residing in another country will become a citizen of India if their parents or Grandparents need to be a citizen of Undivided India.

Article 9:

If you are an Indian you can't be the citizen of any other country because there is Single Citizenship for India. If you get citizenship of another country your citizenship with India will automatically get cancelled.

Article 10:
Any changes in citizenship by the parliament will not affect the existing citizenship of a citizen.

Article 11:
This empowers the Parliament to have the power to make changes in the acquisition and termination of citizenship.
